This project,
installed in South Riding, Virginia, incorporates many different
landscaping features including stone hardscaping and extensive planting.
Description
Photo
This
photo shows the front entrance. One highlight is the stone walkway,
which compliments the architecture of the home. A large landing
off of the driveway directs visitors to the front door. A planting
bed is located to the right of the walkway and provides a focal
point and screening.
The
backyard was cleared, beds were edged and mulched, and masses
of plant material were installed. We added new elements, while
working with other features (such as the deck) which were already
part of the landscape.
Here,
we show a close-up of the landscaping around the deck.
It
is very important to relate hardscaping elements to their surroundings.
Curved planting beds transition the structure of the deck to
the lawn area and naturalize the landscape.
Stone
always adds a natural touch to any garden. In this example,
stacked stone risers are used to complement the irregular flagstone
paving. Evergreen and perennial plantings add year-round interest.
